Performed On His Stradivarius Violin
With the London City Symphony
Recorded at Abbey Road Studio's, London, England
Alan Williams, Conductor
Rarely does an entire album come along that brings so much musical satisfaction from each song. Taken as a whole, one is completely fulfilled in Albert Stern's "Road to Love"!
Representing perhaps a milestone in recording, this is probably the first time a concert Violinist of Albert Stern's stature has performed popular songs using a 300 year old Stradivarius violin, accompanied by the full, rich sounds of a world class orchestra. It is a true crossover album and will introduce "pop song" enthusiasts to the sounds and beauty of classical performances.
Mr. Stern interprets these songs as a vocalist would sing, rather than strictly an instrumental rendition. The phrasing, nuance, and performance are Bel Canto at their best, yet he performs this music on his violins as no vocalist would be capable. His "voice" reaches higher and lower, with a range of octaves going all the way from the rich base strings, to the highest soprano register of his instrument.
Stern adds double stops, (two and more notes playes simultaneously), for added richness and depth, as well as harmonics and other effects. These original arrangements include "cadenzas" Mr. Stern composed, as in the closing of "Feelings", which is musically fitting and also demonstrates his brilliant virtuoso command of the violin.
This album belongs in the library of every lover of music as well as audiophiles who wish to hear the sounds of a large first class orchestra, which exploit the full capabilities of their equipment. This album employs today's latest and finest recording techniques.
